My friend, Cathy Babao-Guballa sent me an email to announce her upcoming support group workshop/ meeting for children who have experienced a loss of a loved one in their lives. Cathy, who had lost her son 4-year old son, Migi, in 1998, is a grief counselor, and together with her daughter, written a book entitled “Heaven’s Butterfly” to help kids learn to deal with their loss. For those interested, here is Cathy’s email:
Hi Janice!
On May 22, 2009 I will be conducting Good Grief! a play and support group for children ages 6-10 years old who have lost a loved one through death. Grief as you know is very real for children. Though it may not seem apparent now, the sadness is something that stays with them throughout their entire lives. This is something I have seen in many children, and very true in my own life – my brother was 10, and I was 16 when we lost our dad in 1981.
To help kids process their losses — we will have games, storytelling, artwork, and other inter-active activities during the two and a half hour session on Friday, May 22 from 9:30 -12 noon. The session will be held in a private condominium in Makati.
Please email me at cathybabao@gmail.com to reserve a slot for your child or loved one. Kindly pass on this email to others whom
you may think will benefit from attending Good Grief! Thanks and God bless!
Sincerely,
Cathy
